EuroBonus tiers: Silver, Gold and Diamond requirements and perks

· · 3 min read

EuroBonus has four tiers: Member, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Member is where everyone starts and it is free. The other three are earned, and each one makes flying a little more comfortable and your points a little more valuable.

Here is what it takes to reach each level and whether the climb is worth your effort.

How status is measured

Status comes from Level points, the status-only counter that resets every qualification period. You can also qualify through a number of SAS flights if you prefer counting trips, but most people track the points figure.

The thresholds, measured over your 12-month qualification period:

  • Silver: 20,000 Level points (or around 10 qualifying SAS flights)
  • Gold: 45,000 Level points (or around 45 flights)
  • Diamond: 90,000 Level points (or around 90 flights)

Numbers can shift over time, so treat these as the working figures and confirm against your account.

Silver

Silver is the first real step up and the easiest to justify. Typical perks include a more generous baggage allowance on some fares and better check-in. You also get a 25 percent bonus on the Bonus points you earn, so your spendable balance grows faster.

For an occasional traveler, Silver is a realistic yearly goal and the benefits pay off without much effort.

Gold

Gold is the tier most frequent flyers aim for, mostly because of lounge access. Gold members get into lounges when flying on an eligible ticket, along with priority check-in and a bigger baggage allowance on many fares. The earning bonus rises to 50 percent.

Lounge access is the perk people fall in love with. Once you have spent a few long layovers in a quiet lounge with decent coffee instead of a crowded gate, it is hard to go back.

Diamond

Diamond is the top tier and it asks a lot: 90,000 Level points is a serious amount of flying. In return you get the strongest perks, a 75 percent earning bonus, and one underrated benefit that long-time members love most: your points do not expire. For someone sitting on a large balance, that alone can be worth the climb.

Common questions

How many Level points do I need for Gold? Around 45,000 Level points over the 12-month qualification period, or roughly 45 qualifying SAS flights. Silver sits at 20,000 and Diamond at 90,000.

What is the difference between Level points and Bonus points? Level points decide your status and cannot be spent. Bonus points are the currency you redeem for travel. More in the guide on Bonus points vs Level points.

Do my points expire when I reach a tier? Bonus points can expire on most tiers, but Diamond members are exempt entirely. It is one of the most valued perks at the top level.

Is chasing status worth it?

Honestly, it depends on how you fly. If you are paying for the flights yourself and flying a handful of times a year, do not contort your travel just to hit a tier. Silver will come naturally and that is fine.

If you fly often, especially for work, Gold changes the experience enough to be worth steering your bookings toward SAS and its partners. Diamond is for people who are practically living on planes.

Whatever tier you are at, your points are only as good as the seats you can find. Bonussøk helps you spot open award seats on SAS so the points you worked for actually get used.
